Club History

In 1978 due to differences, Frazer Walker, along with some other members, left 2nd City Cruisers to form Strathclyde Rod and Custom Club. Soon after they were joined by Keith Fletcher, Ian Marshall and Billy Marshal (no relation) all of who are still members today. Other long standing members are Martin Proctor and Bruce Kinnear who joined the fray in 1980.

Around 1983, the "differences" agenda appeared, which following a members meeting resulted in the club splitting in two with one side continuing as Strathclyde Rod and Custom and the others forming an American Car Club (the name of which escapes us - and unfortunately they no longer meet).

In 1986 the club held a weekend event at Doune Motor Museum (the event window stickers stating "I've been up 'n' Doune"). The weekend was a success, however the presence of a group of bikers with an attitude (despite no actual trouble) ensured that the management weren't willing to allow us any more weekend events at the museum.

In 1993 we held our 1st Picnic Day on the Bonnie Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond, initially intended for club members only, it was decided to open the gates to others and has been held every year since (see Events section for more details).

We had a change of name in 2000 to Klaymore Kruisers to bring us up-to-date as Strathclyde had vanished from the map, and finding T-shirts big enough to print the club name was becoming a challenge.

A further split around 2005 followed, this one being a bit of a mystery as no fallout had occurred. The guys that left resurrected the old 2nd City Cruisers name and bizarrely held their meetings in the same venue. We all still talk to each other so apart from reducing the size of the Klaymore Kruisers no real harm was done.

That brings us up to present times. Despite the fact that like all clubs we've had ups and downs, fallouts and members coming and going, we have been meeting virtually every week since 1979. The current list of members (all of which have been around for a few years now) can be viewed in the Club Members section.
